#The_Woman_Whose_Children_Were_Great_Leaders, #Jochebed
Dear Diary,
So, who's this woman? Come with me to Numbers 26:59; Exodus 2:1-1. Her name is Jochebed, the mother of Moses, Aaron and Miriam. She was a daughter of a Levite and was married to a Levite. So, both were from a Levite descent, Ex.2:1. Some interesting details here, Jochebed was married to her nephew, Amram, Ex. 6:20. Ok, don't get it twisted, back then law had not been given. So this marriages were accepted.
Are you a great person? Is your mama proud of you? When she counts her blessing, does she count you twice, thrice or even a million times?Jochebed, must have been a proud mother to: Moses, one of the greatest national leaders and legislators the world has ever known; Aaron, Israel’s first high priest and the founder of the Aaronic priesthood; Miriam, the gifted prophetess and musician. These siblings were intimately involved in the history of Israel.
So, what makes Jochebed an outstanding woman, as stated in Hebrews 11:23? Her courage and faith earned her a special place in the hallmark of faith. Pharaoh had just commanded that all newly-born Hebrew boys be thrown into the Nile. At the time, Jochebed was heavy with her third child. Imagine the midwife's announcement, "It's a baby boy!" I don't want to imagine the thought of loosing a baby! Let me shelve that thought for now.
The Bible says that she saw her baby was a fine child; no ordinary child, and she was determined to fight for his life, Ex. 2:2. Jochebed must have felt that the child was God sent. That mingled with faith and love made her preserve the child. The horror of crocodile, hippos or snake infested R. Nile didn't stop her from saving her son's life when she couldn't hide him anymore. For that she is placed among the heroines of faith, Hebrews 11:23.
Now, to the mothers reading this scribble, the moment you conceived, what did you perceive about your child? Did you see that child as a burden or a blessing? Did you see that child as God sent and as extraordinary bundle? How you perceive your child determine how much you will invest in and fight for the child. For you who accidentally got pregnant and you probably refer to it as an "Unwanted pregnancy" change your attitude. Begin to see that child as God sent, a fine and extraordinary child, a bundle of joy. Your children can be great leaders in the society just like Jochebed's.
Dear woman, your children can be great. Invest in them especially godliness; protect them; see them as a blessing from God.

So, today I had the privilege of teaching in Sunday School church (Judea) from Proverbs 31:1-31. Okay, I know this is about the virtuous wife and these boys and girls aren't there yet. Well, being Mother's Day, we studied the characteristics of a virtuous Mother.
Here are the characteristics we identified:
1. Mother is a teacher-she has taught us lots of things and moral values, v.1-9.
2. She is a treasure,v.10.
3. She is trustworthy, v. 11.
4. She is a woman of action. She is good and does good to her family, v. 12.
5. She works with eager/willing hands, v. 13. She rolls out of her bed early to do those mundane chores.
6. She is a wise shopper, v. 14.
7. She is an early riser, v. 15. Why does she roll out earlier? She wakes up early to pray for her children and make breakfast etc.
8. She labors with diligence to benefit her family. She is prudent the way she invests money, v. 16.
9. She is hardworking/industrious. Mother oozes energy, excellence and diligence, v. 17-19.
10. She is generous, v. 20.
11. She is prepared for tough seasons and changing weather, v. 21.
12. She is a classy, elegant woman. She doesn't get lazy with her own appearance, she takes care of herself, v. 22.
13. She is respectful and respectable, v. 23. If your dad is respected mtaani, mama has influenced it.
14. She is a woman of dignity, v. 25.
15. She speaks with wisdom and gently, v. 26.
16. She is busy managing her household and she doesn't eat bread of idleness, v.27.
17. She is appreciated and praised by her children and hubby, v. 28.
18. She is honorable, v.29.
19. She fears God, v. 30.
20. She has earned her praise, v. 31.

Aren't Mothers virtuous women? God bless all mothers. You women are amazing. Your diligence in every aspect of life is commendable.

Surely Blessing I will Bless You, and Multiplying I will Multiply You

Come with me to Luke 1:5-25, here we meet Elizabeth. Luke describes her as one of the daughters of Aaron, meaning she came from a priestly family. She was the wife of a priest, Zacharias who belonged to a set of priests who ministered in the temple from Sabbath to Sabbath, v.5. Note, both were from a priestly descent.
Elizabeth was prominent as a godly woman, v.6. She was righteous before God, walking in His commandments and ordinances of the Lord blamelessly. However, v.7 unleashes some heartbreaking news; Elizabeth was barren and advanced in years, v.7,18. The prospect of childbearing was past. Wait a minute! But she was from a priestly family, and a wife to a priest! How can God be so "unfair"? In spite of this heartbreaking disappointment, this couple continued to serve God in the temple, v.8-9; they continued to pray and long for a child, v.13.
Elizabeth was also a privileged woman. In her old age, she conceived and bore an extraordinary son. Surely, God removed her reproach among men. In addition, she was privileged to be the first to confess the unborn Christ as Lord, v.43.
BTW, Elizabeth in the Hebrew context means "God is my oath." You see, indeed God is a promise keeper as seen in Zacharias song, v.67-80. God could make oath or swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself. Saying, "surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you," Hebrews 6:13-14.
Dear friend, it doesn't matter the seeming impossible prospect. You may have waited for too long. You continue to serve God joyfully. The situation may seem barren, but God is saying this to you, "Patiently and faithfully endure, you will obtain the promise. I have sworn to bless and multiply you."

#The_Woman_With_Beauty_And_Brains
Let me introduce you to this intelligent and beautiful woman, Abigail. I tried searching for her parentage and genealogy but I didn't seem to find details except the information in the above passages. Based on her plea before David, it reveals that she was a godly woman.
It's interesting to note that Abigail was married to a rich man, Nabal. But it's heartbreaking that this hubby was brutal, rude, selfish, drunken wretch, stubborn, ill-tempered, a non-believer, stupid/fool (v.25) and destitute of the finer qualities of his wife. On the flip side Abigail is an intelligent woman with a beautiful countenance. She had brains as well as beauty. She made intercession for her hubby before David saying, "Pay no attention to my wretched husband for he is a fool (Nabal) by name and nature," v.25.
Dear woman, don't just cultivate beauty and neglect brains. Loveliness and intelligence are inseparable twins. Wed your beauty, poise and intelligence with godliness (holiness, piety), humility, patience, calmness, peace, v.23-31. As Abigail speaks to David, one thing is clear, this woman had confidence in God. Her intervention in the nick of time teaches that when we have wisdom and faith we will not hesitate to take risks. Interestingly, she didn't divorce her wretched hubby! Ok. She had taken him for better and for worse. She remained a loyal wife and protector of the wretched husband and household. Thankfully, the hour of her deliverance came, the wretched hubby died of stroke.
What lessons can we learn from Abigail?
First, much heartache follow when a godly woman marries an unbeliever. Secondly, don't marry a man just because he has wealth. Character must be considered over possessions. Thirdly and importantly, don't just pursue beauty. Be an intelligent woman with a beautiful countenance, godly character, patient, peaceful, an intercessor, humble and calm.

#The_Neon_Lights_of_Sin_Street.
“Till sin be bitter; Christ will not be sweet,” Thomas Watson.
Dear diary, you know, there are some personal experiences and tales that will never come into contact with your pages, some are wry and melancholy while others are funny, sober and enlightening. Some I scribble and rethinking posting them. This is one of those scribbles I didn't want to share, however, I have thought over it again and again.
So, there's this day I had an irresistible crave for plum jam, I checked in a supermarket and bought the 100g can. I sat down in the house and scooped just a little and swallowed it. I took another scoop, the sweetness was indeed irresistible. Each time I told myself I won't devour another scoop but the sweetness was temporarily tempting. In like 30 mins, I had devoured all of it. Sooner than I finished, I started feeling nauseous and I blamed the devil for tempting me, thank God I didn't gush it out. That day I didn't do dinner because my tummy angrily growled.
Last evening I thought about plum jam and honestly I desired it. I wanted to go buy it but just remembered my past experience so I restrained myself. What's my point? It's not a cliche, Sin will always cost you more than you intended to pay, it will take you further than you intended to go, and it will keep you longer than you intended to stay. I have realized that the ancient Serpent always shows me the neon lights of Sin Street, the glamour and the good times; but he never shows me where sin leads-death, destruction and damnation! Sin is certainly pleasurable but for a moment. Sin is temporarily sweet but the consequences are dire. Countless times, I have desired the pleasure of some sin. Sometimes I have compromised and regretted. There are a thousand reasons I have tried to make it less than sinful. I also realize shame and 'what will people say if they discover my little secret' has caused me to hide it;that fear has made me try to manage it; you know, I lie then someone redefines it as wisdom, is it? What's wrong with humanity or is it only me?
Apostle Paul calls us to "Throw off the sin that easily entangles," Heb 12:1. The Psalmist (Psalm 32), invites us to deal honestly with sin. "Acknowledge sin and don't cover up your iniquity. Confess your transgression to the Lord. If you keep silent about it, your bones will waste away. Blessed is the man whose transgressions are forgiven." On the flip side, the neon lights and glamour of Sin Street is death and damnation. Tonight I can experience the joy and the blessedness of being forgiven. No longer controlled by sin. Am glad the unfailing love of God surrounds me. Am thankful to God for His grace.

Think about the adverts you have seen about Detergents that are tough on stains. Hao wamama mtaani wanatueleza kuwa KUNA SABUNI ZA KUONDOA NA KUTAKATISHA MADOA SUGU KWENYE NGUO. Je, wewe unatumia sabuni ipi? In a few, I'd like to introduce you to Jehovah M'kaddesh (The God who SANCTIFIES). Meanwhile, haiepukiki kuwa baada ya muda nguo hupata udongo na madoa mengine. Nguo nyeupe ni chambo cha madoa, na madoa hayo huonekana zaidi ya nguo yenyewe. Habari njema ni kuwa nguo yako hata iwe imendamwa na madoa kwa kiasi gani, bado inaweza kuokolewa. Vinega, juisi ya ndimu, blichi, Magadi Soda, Persil, Omo, Power Boy, Ushindi, Aerial ni baadhi ya sabuni zinazotajwa kuwa na nguvu za kuondoa madoa sugu kwenye nguo. (They are tough on all stains.) Ninapotazama runinga yangu, ninawaona akina mama wakifua nguo zenye madoa sugu ya udongo, chakula na kadhalika, kisha wanaulizana ni sabuni ipi ina uwezo wa kung'arisha na kuondoa madoa sugu? Nasikia wakisema, "Kufua ni?" However, I have seen a limit to the "kutakatisha" power of these detergents.
And onto other matters, "Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless; are they white as snow?" The lyrics of the 3rd and 4th stanza say, "When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white!

This brings me to Leviticus 20:7-8; Exodus 31:13. Here we meet Jehovah M'kaddesh who has the the ultimate detergent, the power to SANCTIFY i.e to declare holy, consecrate. The name M'kaddesh derives from the Hebrew word Kadosh and is translated in English to SANCTIFY, Holy, Consecrate primarily by the Holy One (M'kaddesh). In Hebrews 13:12, Jesus died outside the city gate of Jerusalem in order that all people might be SANCTIFIED. I have been made holy by the Blood of the Lamb. I don't know what you have been through, how dirty and sinful you are but there's a solution. Jehovah M'kaddesh wants to SANCTIFY you; to set you apart for holy use. Surrender to Him and let Him cleanse you.

Who Are You?

Imagine, you meet up with someone who tells you to do something. You ask him, "Who are you?" Then he tells you, "I am who I am? What would be your reaction?
For instance, assume you don't know Hon. Sonko, then you meet him and he bails you out of a situation. You ask him, "Who are you?" "I am Sonko," he answers. What would be your impression? Assuming you understand that Sonko implies mtu ambaye ni "source" yaani ana mullah kuruka! You'll definitely trust him to meet your need. Btw, have you heard Hon. Sonko's campaign song, #SimbaWaNai? Ok, let me hook you up with part of the lyrics, "...Simba ni nani? Sonko! Sonko! Simba wa Nairobi amenguruma.... akinguruma yatima, wajane wanacheka. Baba, kura zote ni zako." Now, this is an interesting jam, think about it! You see, those who know SONKO trust and rejoice when he roars. How much more should those who KNOWTHE NAME OF THE LORD PUT THEIR TRUST IN HIM? Check that out in Psalm 9:10.
A person's name signifies his character, ability and/or mission. In Genesis 3:14-15, God asks Moses to do something and when Moses asks Him who He is, He answers, "I Am Who I Am!" This is His personal name, Yahweh/Jehovah. It is a form of the verb "to be." Its an assurance of God's character as the eternal, ever present, self-complete, self-sufficient, independent Being. Everything else is contingent being that derives its existence from Him. He is the infinite and ever present, inexhaustible source. He is the real source. Those who Know His name as the self-sufficient Being put their trust in Him because they know He doesn't forsake those who seek Him. Ma-Sonko wa hapa duniani wako tu hapa kwa muda. Wananguruma tu kwa muda, but Jehovah, the real Source roars and every living thing find its being in Him.

Who or what is the Most Omnipotent thing or being in heaven and earth?
Dear Diary,
I use Outering-Jogoo roads almost daily but last week I got abit interested, each day I took keen observation. I observed the road construction equipment and I thought about the power of these equipment: The Crawler Excavator got my attention, it excavates earth and crushes rocks with ease and loads them onto dump trucks. The Fork Lift and Wheel Loaders too, didn't miss my eyes. I saw them lift and move heavy objects and piles of materials. The power of the Road Roller Machine and Motor Grader pressing down into place and creating flat surfaces was remarkable. The prowess of the operators humbled me as well.
On to something else, it's Campaigns season and you see, sometimes I am amused when men and women declare their power, their abilities and they brag about extraordinary things they're doing or they've done. I also brag about my prowess, power and abilities but this morning in my devotion I am humbled by the Omnipotence of God. Human beings have limited power and abilities so are any man made machines/equipment but Jehovah, the Omnipotent; His power is limitless. There are NO IMPOSSIBILITIES, DIFFICULT and/or TOO HARD things for/with Him. Jer 32:17-18, 26-27; Gen. 18:14, God says, "Is anything too hard for Me?" In Matt. 19:26; Luke 18:27, with men it seems impossible for some people to get saved but with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. Luke 1:37, you could be wondering, "How shall this be seeing I don't have what it takes?" Well, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE with God. Isaiah 52:2, you could be in a difficult situation and you are wondering if there's hope for you. Well, God says, "I have the Strength to RESCUE you." Probably you are looking at what's happening in your life and wondering what God is upto. Well, God has the power not only to DO ALL THINGS but in wisdom, grace, with a purpose and with excellence.
So what? Through the scripture and in our day to day life, God reveals to us specific truths about Himself so that we can know what He is like and be drawn to worship Him for who He is.
The Lord God, Jehovah is All-powerful.
