Humility is a Fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23.
Daniel 4, we are told about the vision Nebuchadnezzar had of a Great Tree whose height was great and visible to the end of the earth; it's leaves beautiful and fruit abundant. Suddenly, an angelic watcher descended from heaven and cut it down. This great tree was Nebuchadnezzar himself and his kingdom. God gave him enough time to repent of his sin and exhibit repentance by doing what is right; to turn away from his pride and wickedness and show mercy to the poor, so that if he repent there may possibly be a continuance of his prosperity, tranquility and a healing of his error vs. 27. Twelve months later, he hadn't repented! He looked around and decided that all his gains and greatness were the result of his own military genius vs. 30-31. God sent him a healthy dose of humiliation whereby he ate grass like cattle. When he came to his senses and gave God the praise, the Lord restored his sanity vs. 34.
For sure, it's better to humble yourself. 1 Peter 5:5, says that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Verse 6 tells us to humble ourselves.
Humility is a matter of perspective. It's how you see yourself in relation to God and the people around you. Romans 12:3 calls us not to think of ourselves highly than we ought to think, but think soberly and not be wise in our own opinion. Instead humility should be a matter of balance whereby we don't think too highly or too lowly of ourselves.
Finally, do not be puffed up 1 Corinthians 4, but humble yourself so that God can use you and ultimately exalt you. When you are humble people can trust you and allow you to serve them.
REPENT of PRIDE and LEARN to HUMBLE YOURSELF. Acknowledge the power of God and never think your gains are a result of your own genius, strength or merit. When we refuse to repent, just as Nebuchadnezzar, God gives us a dose of healthy humiliation! Pride and self-conceit are sins that beset great men. Never take glory to yourself which is due to God only. God knows how to abase those that walk in pride, but gives grace to the humble

Prayer: O Sovereign God pls forgive me for the many times have been puffed up. I repent of pride. I want to have a Christlike attitude of humility. Let the indwelling Holy Spirit produce this fruit in me.
