The Lady of Diligence

Ruth 2:2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.”  Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” ³ So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.

1. Your relationship with God matters most.
Ruth came to the God of Israel after years of living in darkness and bound herself to the service of the LORD. Isaiah 56:6-7 “And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to minister to Him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be His servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant—
⁷ these I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar..”
1 Corithians 15:58 “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
How is your relationship with God? Have you accepted Him to be Lord over your life? Have you bound yourself to His service?

2. Your past or current circumstance should not hold you back.
Ruth was a Moabitess, a widow, a stranger in the Bethlehem but she did not waste a minute sponsoring pity parties. Rather she stepped out in faith. Many times, we fail to step out into our destiny because we let the past and/or our current circumstances to hold us back.
Change your attitude and move on to your destiny.. Your past is history; your present is a gift from God- a package that contains opportunities to serve Him and rise to higher heights.

3. No time to waste.
Ruth was willing to use her life working diligently at whatever the LORD called her to do. She didn’t let herself be paralyzed by her lack of a husband. She did not allow the fact that she was a stranger from Moab to cause her to fear while she was gleaning in a strange field. Eph 5:15-17 says, “… Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, ¹⁶ making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

Seize the opportunity without wasting time, find something to do. Realize your strategic position, understand what the Lord’s will is and make the most out of every opportunity.

4. The opportunity/strategic position to serve.
Acts 13:36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed.” David served God’s purpose and he left a lasting legacy that is living until today.

Do you understand the purpose of God for your life? Do you know what you are cut out for? God in His sovereign power created every person for a purpose. Nobody is an accident. There is a lot we can do in our generation:

a. Ministry of Encouragement- Isa 50:4 “The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.

How many times do people come to you with a need and all they need is gracious and wise encouragement? Are you willing to encourage people?

b. Ministry of Prayer- to intercede in behalf of someone’s need is a privilege. Matt 18:19 get someone you can prayerfully approach God in harmony.

c. Ministry of Service- there could never be a better moment to Serve God and people than NOW. Rather than waste time, take advantage of your free time to serve God and people

d. Ministry of Listening- when someone is grieving, your presence provides more power than words. When someone is burdened, you may just want to listen and silently pray. A listener provides a healing audience for someone who is hurting. It only requires a loving and listening heart.

e. Ministry of Hospitality, Helps, teaching Sunday School and others- Do not limit yourself, God has given you time and helping others with dailies of life is gift. Whatever you will choose to be diligent in, Col 3:23 tells us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for men.”

Determine what may have kept you from being more diligent and purpose to step out in faith.

The Acceptable and Honorable Sacrifice

2Sam 24:24 “… I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God offerings that cost me nothing.”

How much does you offering/sacrifice cost you? What’s the attitude of your heart when offering to God your sacrifices?

Mal 1:6-14 what is the sacrifice that is acceptable and honors God?

1. The offering that is not defiled. Defiled how?

Whatever we offer to God should never have any blemish. Food for thought, if you took a crippled sacrifice to your local governor, will he be pleased with you? Certainly No. should we give to God that which is crippled, dishonorable? Absolutely No. God is sovereign, never give Him that which is dishonorable. God is the giver of good gifts. He even gave His best, His only begotten son Jesus without any blemish/sin. Let’s give Him what is due His great name.

2. Never bring to God a sacrifice of convenience.

If you want to get rid of something you don’t require, don’t not give it to God. Don’t sacrifice nything that is just convenient to you. We must give God what is due Him. Our hearts must be set to honor God. it must cost you. If something is not useful to you, why bring it to God? How often do we bring to God our second best, the coins that remained after shopping and paying bills? Our Quiet Time, is it a superficial effort of convenience or of love and loving devotion?

Mark 14:3-9, Luke 7:36-39- A woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She broke it and poured the perfume on Jesus. The perfume was worth a year’s wages. She came out of love and gratitude in the understanding that she could be forgiven. That was a costly sacrifice and she offered it to Jesus out of love with humility and gratitude

Matt 19:29- we must be willing to sacrifice the most important things in our lives for the sake of Jesus. Our relationships, our ambitions, possessions etc. we must sacrificially give to God.

3. What’s the attitude of your heart when offering your sacrifices to God?

Never offer any sacrifice to God with a contemptible attitude. A grateful heart, a cheerful attitude, willingness and loving attitude is what we should have when offering to God our sacrifices. It will be a waste if we bring an acceptable and honorable sacrifice with wrong attitude. When giving to God, what has been the attitude of your heart? Better no sacrifice that sacrifices offered with contempt. Mal 1:10-12

God is not interested in a multitude of our sacrifices. He requires the sincerity of the worshiper, faithfulness, obedience, total devotion, humility, justice and righteousness Isaiah 1:11-15.

God hides His face from those who rebel against Him. he will not listen to their prayers Isaiah 1:15. He will not accept us with defiled sacrifices, sacrifices of convenience and wrong attitude Mal 1:9-10.

Prayer.

I implore you God of grace, please forgive me for the many times I have sacrificed to You offerings that cost me nothing. Forgive me for the times I have had wrong attitude towards giving. Forgive me for the times have sacrificed to You unacceptable and dishonorable sacrifices. Forgive me God. I pledge to give myself sacrificially, the time You have given me and all the resources You have endowed me with.

A CALL TO WORSHIP

We are created for worship. Each of us was created BY GOD for RELATIONSHIP with Him, but we can only enjoy that relationship by God’s grace. God’s great love for us, demonstrated in Christ, initiates our response. The only reasonable response is Our EXPRESSION of WORSHIP. As we worship, God has promised His presence.

1 Chronicles 15 gives specific instruction from the LORD about how the priests were to prepare for worship.

The outstanding instruction is CONSECRATION. To be consecrated means:

1. To be made holy (to be sanctified and purified)
2. To be appointed
3. To dedicate oneself

The true consecration is a consecration unto/for God, not to one’s personal needs, nor to those of the church or others (Exodus 28:1,3-4,41; 29:1,44).

God highly appreciates our consecration. For this purpose HE sacrificed His Son to blot out our sins through His blood so that we are made priests and kings for Him (Revelation 1:5-6; 5:9-10) and we are called a royal priesthood, which is really a high and special position (I Peter 2: 9-10).

As Priests and Levites, we must be consecrated to God. If we are to carry the Ark of Covenant (God’s Holy presence) to the people, we must be consecrated (made holy). 1 Chr 15:13 we note that God’s anger broke out against the people because the Levites did not inquire of God about how to do it in the prescribed way.

Back in the days of Moses, God’s presence was not always available to every person. It was dangerous to encounter God’s holy presence without appropriate preparation. The priests were the ones who had access to God’s presence; their preparation to meet with God was literally a matter of life and death. They couldn’t survive an encounter with God without an appropriate cleansing and sacrifice. Ex 29:1-46, Lev 8:1-36. There was stiff penalty for the priests/Levites who did not comply. Lev 10, the sons of Aaron missed the mark and God literally sent fire to consume them.

It is dangerous to approach our worship encounters of Holy God with presumption. We are not supposed to become so familiar with the presence of God that we lose the respect and reverence for Him.

How do I prepare myself for worship?

Priests and Levites are to prepare for Worship. God has to work in us before He does the work through us. This preparation has to start with the Consecration as mentioned above. 1 Chr 15:14. “So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of Covent.”

 If God has called you to lead His people in worship, He has called you to do it with Integrity, Quality and Preparation.

Every worship service deserves to be done “as unto the Lord” the worship leader/team must prepare. Planning improves quality, it an absolute necessity for a worship leader/team who desires to honor God. It shows our priority for worshiping God and honors Him. Planning triggers and enhances creativity to flourish.

Preparation entail spending intensive time with God in prayer and word.

Another outstanding requirement is AUTHENTICITY. As a worshiper, you must be genuine. God wants us to be authentic and relational.

“Authenticity is what defines a successful worshiper. It’s not about putting a good show. It’s about connecting with people and ushering them into a worship experience.”  It is not Rock Star mentality.

Many churches struggle as they attempt to attract more people because they change their style of worship, thinking a switch is all that is needed. But we need to ask ourselves, “what is the goal of this worship? Does this keep people connected to God?” an authentic worshiper must be sensitive to the spirit of God and must never attempt to be someone else.

Another outstanding requirement is having THE SPIRITUAL TOOL BOX. It is important to prepare, practice and rehears. What about the preparation of the soul to lead other into the realms of the Spirit. Mark 12:30 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.” That is the first and greatest commandment, total devotion to God.

Spend intense time studying God’s word. God is revealed in His word. Reading, hiding the word in our hearts and meditating on the word are disciplines of the Christian faith. Reflect/meditate- Psalm 8. Be renewed Isaiah 40:28-31- God is the giver of strength to the weary? Are you feeling burned out? Be renewed. Repent Psalm 51:10-13. The process of renewal is not complete without acknowledging the need for repentance. Rejoice Phil 4:4-7. You cannot afford to be encumbered by a load of anxieties in a worship service.

Financial Flashpoint, Putting our wealth into perspective

True Contentment is great wealth. Does God really want all His children to be rich? Ponder that…

Apostle Paul had this to say, “These are the things you are to teach and insist on. ³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, ⁴ they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions ⁵ and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

 ⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. ⁸ But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. ⁹ Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:1-10

Think about this fictional story of one rich man on his deathbed who wanted to bargain with God:-

“I’ve worked too hard to amass my fortune,” He pleaded in prayer, “and I want to take it with me to heaven.” “We don’t do that,” said God. “But please,” the man begged. “I’m nothing without my money! But if you won’t do it for me, do it for my children. They are spoiled rotten, and the money will only make matters worse. Please Lord, let me bring it to heaven so they’ll be spared from life of indulgence and corruption.” Upon hearing this revised plea, the Lord had mercy and amended His answer. “Alright,” He said. “You may bring one suitcase with you into heaven. But only one.” The rich man immediately had his wealth converted into gold bricks. He packed his million-dollar treasure into the largest suitcase he could find and stashed it beneath his bed. A few weeks later, the man drew his last breath. When he opened his eyes in eternity, he found himself standing at the gate to the heavenly holy city. Panicked he looked around for his money, then sighed with relief when he saw the suitcase by his side. The LORD had not forgotten His promise.

The angel at the gate, however, had not seen such a thing. “A suitcase?” he said, lifting his snowy brow. “You can’t bring anything into heaven with you!”

“I know this isn’t the way you usually do things,” the rich man answered, “but I have a special arrangement with God.”

“I’ll have to look inside the suitcase,” the angel declared. “This is extremely unconventional.”

Perfectly willing, the rich man stepped back while the angel unzipped the bag and took stock of the gleaming gold bricks. The sentry shook his head slightly, then lifted his voice to the Almighty. “Lord,” he called out, parting the heavens with trumpeting voice, ‘I’ve got a man here who says he’s made a special arrangement with You.”

The heavens rumbled back an answer: “what sort of arrangement was that?”

The angel glanced down at the suitcase again, then lifted his eyes. “For some reason, he wants to bring in a load of paving material.”

Think about it…

Learn to value the things of this world the way God values them…

Pressed on everyside to make decisions?
Phil 4:6-7 “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God and the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Step One - Pray
the above passage gives you the starting point for every decision and every endeavor -- PRAY for God's help and guidance.
Step Two – Analyze
While you await God's guidance, you should remember that it is by God's will that you are endowed with the ability to reason and evaluate.

• God gave you a mind to THINK with.
• It is God's will that you trust in Him, but it is equally God's will that you think and reason things out.

  "Come now, and let us reason together,'' says the Lord Isa 1.18a
It is quite evident that God wants you to use the mind He blessed you with, because He has provided you with Bible verses to guide you in that effort.

• James 1.5 enjoins you to ask God for wisdom, quite clearly showing that God does expect you to apply your mind as well as your prayers in making decisions.
• Proverbs 15.22 encourages you to dig out facts and advice from many counselors.

Part of your thinking process should be directed toward discerning God's answer when He gives it to you.

• A decision always involves more than one course of action. Otherwise, there would not be any decision to make.
• Thus, another part of your thinking process should be directed toward discerning the value that God might place on each possible course of action.  1 Corinthians 10.31 says, "WHATEVER you do, do all to the glory of God."   

Step Three - Step Out in Faith

• First step is pray.
• Second step is analyze, all the while seeking counsel from God's people & God's word.
• Third step is Step Out in Faith. Decide! Do it! Don't get stuck in gridlock awaiting signs. Trust in the Lord. Get moving!

  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Prov 3.5-6

Then the Lord said to Moses, ``Quit praying and get the people moving! Forward, march!"

Aftermath - Bumps in the Road
Okay, you did all the right things. You prayed often and hard for God's will. You asked God to grant you wisdom. You dug out the facts, and listened carefully to good advice. Then you reached a decision and stepped out in faith. Does this mean that the results of your decision will hum along as smooth as clockwork?  you might at times answer "No."
Daniel was right in the middle of God's will, but he still spent the night in a den of hungry lions (Dan 6.16-24).
The Lord's disciples were in a boat on the Sea of Galilee, fully in obedience to the Lord's will, yet they were confronted with a violent storm (Mk 4.35-41).
Why would God say things are going just fine when you are waist high in alligators? Romans 8.28-29. God will make all things "work together for good." Thus God ensures that even the *bad things* will work for your ultimate good - in God's good time.

HEALING GRACE FOR THE BODY, SOUL AND MIND

2Kings 5:1-27
Now Naaman was a commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of His master and highly regarded, because through him the LORD had given victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy vs 1.
You could have it all but deep down you may be leprous. You could be successful but deep in your heart there is agony, pain, frustration, stinking wounds.
There is healing and saving power in the presence of the King of kings. There is amazing grace and healing power in Him. It is the healing and grace that cannot be bought by a large gift, pride and lordly presence cannot command this healing and saving grace of God. That healing you so in need of comes from God.
Terms and conditions apply, only if you will come to the mercy seat, accept the saving grace and be obedient to the word of the LORD. There is hope for you if only you courtesy of the God of grace who is able to heal the body, soul and mind.

Memoirs of Mt. Longonot -Hike

In December 2007, we hiked Mt. Longonot and went round the rim of the crater. The experience was incredible.
According to Wikipedia, Mount Longonot, is a dormant volcano, rising to 2,776 meters above sea level. It is 8km-9Km long but very steep. The climb takes anything from 1 to 5 hours depending on one's fitness levels.

My Experience,
I realized that I couldn’t hike past my attitude. “Your attitude determines your altitude”. My starting point was to adjust my mind set. I determined to climb the mountain.
At some point during the hike, my pace stalled, one because of the people I was in the company of who had already made up their minds that they were not going to make it to the top. I had to make a deliberate choice to separate myself and link up with people who were determined to go up. I am glad I did.
I looked up to the people who had gone past me and they became my source of motivation- Cowboy (Mbinda), Denu, Izzo, Eva and Mugo.
As we hiked and went round the rim of the crater, I realized how much I need the support and motivation from the fellow climbers. Whenever I was almost giving up, I found encouragement from Eva Maina, Mlami, Mily and Grace. There are times we had to hold each other’s hands and help climb up the rocks. Mlami helped me a lot, he relentless took my hand and pulled me up even when I was giving up and would throw words of encouragement at me.
I remember the following persons went up the rugged Mt. Longonot and round the rim of the crater:-
Denis, Mbinda, Izzo, Washy- these ones had gone past me and I was really drawing a lot of strength from them, I looked upto them, they were like benchmark for me.
Mugo & Eva Maina, their zeal inspired me.
Grace & Mily, their determination was incredible and I drew a lot of strength from them.
Mlami, I can’t number the many times he took my hand and pulled me up the rocks, the ridge and the words of inspiration he spoke to me. When I was feeling so exhausted and almost giving up, he made me feel like it was a small challenge. He stirred me up.
The above guyz inspired me so much to finish the challenge.
Challenges

• The scorching sun. I remember well we started the hike at around 11:30am.
• Stony soil and dust.
• Rugged ridges.
• Thorny bushes
• Rocks.
• Hadn’t carried drinking water.
• I lost one of my shoe, don’t know how but thank God I had socks so the hot soil didn’t flame the sole of my foot.
• Some people didn’t make it; some because they walked in the company of those who stalled their pace. Others because lacked the determination and a persevering spirit and others because they lacked someone to push them up even with words of encouragement. Some because they were not dressed appropriately and some because they carried unnecessary luggage like I remember one guy, he tried to hike with a Mountain Bike aha aha ah.

Conclusion.
I learned right attitude, faith and determination are ingredients of success.
Through all the challenges we went through as we hiked and went round the rim of the crater, I learned to draw strength from within. I also learned that we need each other for support and encouragement.
It is necessary to carry necessities e.g. drinking water and a walking staff comes in handy.
Lastly, surround yourself with the right people who will not stall your pace. People who will walk with you, hold your hand and pull you up. People who will challenge you and speak words of encouragement to you.
In every situation God has given us blessed consolation that our trials and challenges only come to make us strong

So I thank God for the mountains and thank Him for the valleys, the rugged ridges. Thank Him for the storms and obstacles He's brought you through because if you never had a problem you wouldn’t know that He could solve it, you wouldn't know what faith in His Word could do.
Have a determined attitude, and you will make it.

Mama and Daddy Eagle

Once upon a time there was a Mama and Daddy eagle who began to build a nest high on top of a tall sturdy pine tree. They found strong branches to weave together to build their nest. They filled in the spaces with grass, moss, cornstalks and other strong fibers. The inside of the nest is not yet a comfortable place for their babies to be born. To make the nest a comfortable place the eagle parents put their own feathers in the bottom of the nest to pad their future babies from the sharp sticks.
When the eaglets hatch they have a nice comfortable place to live while they are cared for by their parents. There comes a day that the eaglets need to learn to fly. In order to learn to fly they need to leave the nice, big comfy nest they have been accustomed to.
The mama eagle knows that the eaglets will not survive if they don’t learn to fly. She begins to make the nest uncomfortable by taking the soft feathers out of the nest. Now the eaglets’ soft fluffy bed has been turned into a bed of sharp pointy sticks. Mama eagle know that her babies need to fly to survive so she begins to beat her wings driving the eaglet to the edge of the nest. She pushes him over the edge and he begins to fall forcing him to try to use his wings to learn to fly. Since he’s never used them he flaps and falls. Mama swoops under her falling eaglet and catches him on her back and soars upward into the sky.
The eaglet feels safe once again until his mama without warning dives downward causing the eaglet to lose his grip. The mama eaglet continues to allow her baby to fall and flap and each time his wings are strengthened and soon he is able to soar on his own. If mama eagle would not have made her eaglets uncomfortable her babies may have never left the comfort of their nest to become the strong beautiful birds they were intended to be.
In our story today we see how discomfort has a similar effect on the believers.
Let’s think of Jerusalem as a comfortable nest for the believers. When the apostles were thrown in jail and beaten it was like having the feathers plucked out of the nest making life a little less comfortable. When Stephen was stoned to death it was similar to Mama eagle pushing her eaglet out of the nest. God allows difficulties in the lives of believers so others can learn about Jesus. God knew that there were people outside of Jerusalem that needed to hear the Good News about Jesus. It was time for the believers to leave the comfort of Jerusalem and go to other places and obey Jesus’ command to go into all the world.
What's your COMFORT ZONE? Is it hindering you from serving God in deeper levels? Are you ready and willing to move out of your comfort zone...?
When God shakes your comfort zones, count it all joy! Delight in knowing this, that Precious are His thoughts toward you. He has the best plans for you, to give you hope and better end.
