What's being successful is really all about?

“...Freely you have received; freely give”
(Matthew 10:8, NIV)
Being successful isn’t just about what you make happen for yourself, it’s about what you make happen for others. It’s when you realize, “God has blessed me not to just sit on my throne and let everybody see my accomplishments; God has blessed me to be a blessing to others.

I choose to be a blessing

This could be your Opportunity, Seize it!!

Mark 10:46-52- The story of Blind Bartimaeus.

The Bible narrates that Jesus and His disciples together with a large crowd were leaving Jericho. A blind man, Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside begging.

When he heard that it was Jesus, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Many rebuked him and told him to quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called the blind man, “cheer up! On your feet! He is calling you.”
Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Many are the times we sit lonely, poor, helpless just like blind Bartimaeus but hear this; Jesus is a round. He desires to do you good.
Do not keep silent, cry out to Him. Do not listen to those that are discouraging you but shout to Him all the more and don’t stop until you get His attention.
The cry of the blind man got Jesus’ attention and He called out for him. It is never in vain to call on Jesus, it doesn’t matter who is watching, listening and telling you to keep quiet- you got His attention, He will stop and will not leave you the same way.
The same guyz who were telling him to keep quiet, when they saw Jesus stop and called for him-now they were cheering him up.
The blind man jumped on his feet throwing his cloak aside. That cloak was an identity that he was a poor blind man, but when Jesus called out for him, he stood up in faith and threw his identity aside. I believe he was full of faith that that will no longer be his identity. He came to Jesus the One who is able to change his identity.
Jesus asked him, “what do you want Me to do for you?” wow, you got the attention of the King of kings, what do you want Him to do for you?
The blind man would have asked for so many other things; he’d have asked for more money, a big house, wealth… but he asked for sight.
Are you in need, helpless and hopeless? This is your opportunity!  Cry out to Jesus and do not let anyone quiet you; cry out and don’t stop until you get His attention. He is gracious. You have His attention- watch; your life will never be the same again. When you have been blessed, do not turn away from Him but follow Him.

This is your Opportunity, seize it- Call upon the name of Jesus and be saved.

Love- the Fruit of the Spirit

"Everyone says that love hurts, but that's not true. Loneliness hurts. Rejection hurts. Losing someone hurts. Envy hurts. Everyone gets these things confused with love, but in reality, love is the only thing in this world that covers up all the pain..."

Gal 5:16-25 talks about the Freedom we find in Christ and life by the Spirit.

If you live by the Spirit you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature- the acts of a sinful nature are obvious:- sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry, witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, desenssion, factions and envy; drunken ness, orgies and the like but the Fruit of the Spirit is Love.
Where love is there is:-

Joy is the strength of that love,
Peace is the love's security,
Patience is the love's enduring power,
Kindness is the expression of love,
Goodness is the virtue of love,
Faithfulness humility to wait on God even when seemingly He is a distant miles away,
Gentleness in handling others with courtesy and respect and
Selfcontrol that you may be regarded Wise...

True love (the kind-a which is the fruit of the Spirit) covers up the pain

Christian Character is produced by the Holy Spirit not by the mere moral discipline of trying to live by law.

Col 3:12-15 gives us clear rules of holy living- that as God's chosen people we ought to clothe ourselves with Compassion, Kindness, Humility, Gentlesness, bearing with one another and forgiving. And over all these vitues put on LOVE which binds them all together in perfect unity. 1 Cor 13:1-13 Love is the most excellent way.
We must be motivated by LOVE, the kind-a that is the Fruit of the Spirit

God is love

CONFIDENT EXPECTATION

MICAH 7:7 But as for me, I Watch in Hope for the LORD, I Wait for God my savior; my God will hear me.”

Micah 7 begins with a gloomy mood but ends with a statement of Hope- (Confident Expectations).

A time when:-
  • There is no cluster to eat.
  • Men/Women had no comfort, no satisfaction in their own families or in their nearest relations,
  • A time when there was general prevalence of wickedness, universal corruption.
At this time, the prophet saw no safety or comfort but in looking to the Lord, and waiting on God his salvation.

When under trials, we should look continually to our Divine Redeemer that we may have strength and grace to trust in Him.

CHOOSE this -vs. 7
Ø  To Watch In Hope- Hope is definitely not; wishful thinking, dreaming, yearning, longing for, positive thinking, psychological phenomenon, presumption, "acting as if..." but Christian hope is: CONFIDENT EXPECTATION.

Ø  Your object of hope must be the LORD- Faith must have an object and the proper object of genuine faith is GOD-the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Ø  Wait for God- those who patiently wait for the LORD are not disappointed. Remember to watch in Hope is having a Confident Expectation in God and it demands that you PATIENTLY WAIT for God. In His time, He makes all things beautiful.

Ø  Be confident that God will hear you- have that Confident Expectation. And you know what? He delights to bless us beyond our highest and wildest Expectations.

  • There is hope for you:- though you have fallen, you’ll rise again. Though you sit in darkness, the LORD will be your Light. Because it’s Him you sinned against, bear the discipline of the LORD. Though enemies triumph and insult, they shall be silenced and put to shame. Though your (Zion's) walls may long be in ruins, there will come a day when they shall be repaired. You (Israel) shall come from all the remote parts, not turning back for discouragements. Though your enemies may seem to prevail against you, and to rejoice over you, you should not despond. Though cast down, you are not destroyed; hope in God's mercy, with submission to His correction. No hindrances can prevent the favors the Lord intends for you (His church). Vs 8-13

Ø  We must depend upon God to work deliverance for us in due time. We must not only look to Him, but look for Him.

Ø  When God is about to deliver his people, He stirs up their friends to pray for them. He appoints a Shepherd to take care of you (His) church, as the great Shepherd of the sheep, He goes before you to guide and protect you.

Ø  God promises an answer to your prayers.

Ø  As our sins bring us into bondage, so God's pardoning our sin will bring us out. All who find pardoning mercy, cannot but wonder at that mercy; you have reason to stand amazed, if you know what it is. When God forgives sin, He takes care that it never shall be remembered any more against the sinner. He casts the sins into the sea; not near the shore-side, where they may appear again, but into the depth of the sea, never to rise again.

Faithful is He that has promised, who also will do it.

Inquire of The LORD

1 Samuel 30:8 -David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?" And He said to him, "Pursue, for you will certainly overtake them, and you will surely rescue all."
1 Samuel 23:2 at another incidence when the Philistines were attacking Keilah,
David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and deliver Keilah." His men tried to discourage him saying, vs 3 “here in Judah we are afraid, how much more then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!”
1 Samuel 23:4 Then David inquired of the LORD once more. And the LORD answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand."

When you want to do anything, do you put God first and inquire from him what His will is regarding what you want to do?

This year, In everything that we do, let’s recognize God. Let’s inquire from Him what His will is.
If you will inquire from the LORD He will guide you and will remove all the obstacles from your path and will give you victory. You have this promise, Psalm 50:15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me."

When you inquire from the LORD whatever He will tell you, be obedient/submit to His will and it shall be well with you.

With Love
Elizabeth

IF ONLY……you will be Obedient..

Genesis 26:1-33
If we must receive the covenant promises, we must be OBEDIENT to the Will of God.
Now, there was famine in the land; the Lord appeared to Isaac and said, ‘DO NOT GO DOWN to Egypt; LIVE IN THE LAND where I tell you to live. STAY IN THIS LAND FOR A WHILE, I WILL BE WITH YOU, and I WILL BLESS YOU. … I will confirm My oath.’  Therefore, Isaac Stayed in Gerar.
The promise of the father is that He will be with you and will bless you. Just stay in the land- do not despair, do not give up. You will plant your crops regardless of the famine and you will reap hundredfold.

1.       There will always be a situation that is unfavorable but God has the best plans for you to give a hope and future. In this case, there was FAMINE in the land.

2.       If only you will HEAR, KNOW and OBEY God’s Will and promptings, it shall be well with you.
The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “DO NOT GO DOWN to Egypt; LIVE IN THE LAND where I tell you to live. STAY IN THIS LAND FOR A WHILE and I WILL BE WITH YOU and I WILL BLESS YOU. … I Will confirm My oath.” So Isaac Stayed in Gerar. Obedience is better than sacrifice.
Jesus' mother said to the servants, "Do what Jesus tells you to do." In that place there were six large waterpots made of stone. The Jews used waterpots like these in their washing ceremonies. Each waterpot held about 20 or 30 gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill those waterpots with water." So the servants filled the pots to the top. Then Jesus said to the servants, "Now take out some water. Carry the water to the master of the feast." So the servants brought the water to the master. John 2:5-8.
The key to your blessings is OBEDIENCE to the WILL of God. DO WHATEVER JESUS TELLS YOU TO DO and you will prosper.
3.       That situation is just for a season. God told Isaac to stay in the land for a while. Whatever you are going through or is happening around you; it is not permanent, it’s just for a season, for a while.
If only you will be OBEDIENT…..

4.       God is not LIMITED by your present or past situation. “Though there was famine in the land, Isaac planted crops in that land and same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed Him. He became rich and his wealth continued to grow until he became VERY WEALTHY. He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. Gen 26:12-14.
God is able to change the situation and make it fruitful if only we will OBEY Him. Nothing is too hard for the creator of the universe.

5.       Wow, when we obey God’s will we are marked for blessings. The LORD blessed Him. He became rich and his wealth continued to grow until he became VERY WEALTHY. He had so many flocks, herds, and servants that the Philistines envied him. Gen 26:12-14.
When we OBEY God and TRUST that He is the Unlimited God, we will be blessed beyond our imagination. We will become the envy of the world.

6.       More frustrations?  Remember the promise of the Father. The Philistines tried to frustrate Isaac by blocking the wells Abraham had dug. Then Abimelech said to Isaac, ‘Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us. This is an indication that when we OBEY God and do His will the covenant promises will be fulfilled.
Isaac moved away from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and settled there. He reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of Abraham his father which the Philistines had stopped.
His servants discovered a well of fresh water but the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen and said the water is ours! (Named it Esek-dispute). They dug another one but they quarreled over that also (named it Sitna-Opposition) and moved on from there and dug another well and no one quarreled over it (named-Rehoboth- room to flourish)
More frustrations may rise but do not be dismayed, do not fear but count on the Faithful and Unlimited God. The One who has told you to stay in the land and He will be with you and bless you.
When one well closes, do not despair or whine about it, move on a dig yet another well till the LORD establishes you gives you Room to flourish.
If only you will OBEY God and stay in the land, He will fight your battles and in due time will give you rest.
From there he went to Beersheba and God appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase you.”
He then built an altar and called upon the name of the LORD. There he pitched his tent and his servants dug a well. Vs 25

7.       If you OBEY God, you will be blessed indeed and all the people will see and acknowledge that you are blessed by the LORD.
Meanwhile, Abimelech had come to him from Gerar with his personal assistant and the commander of his forces. They came simply because they saw that God was with Isaac and they wanted to make a treaty with him. They actually acknowledged that the LORD blessed Isaac vs 29
“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7, ESV)

Just be OBEDIENT to the Will of the Father- stay in the Land, do not go down to Egypt. Stay in the land for a while.

This 2011, if only you will be OBEDIENT to the LORD, He will be with you and will bless you. “Stay in the land for a while”- do not despair, do not be dismayed, do not fear! You will plant your crops and reap 100fold. Regardless of disputes and opposition, the LORD will give you room to flourish.

Thus says the LORD of Host.

WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS?

Have you made Jesus your lasting Friend?

When is he last time you sung this song and tears of joy welled up in your eyes and felt warmth in your heart?

I challenge you, just take time read each line of this hymn and just think about it:-

How awesom it is to know the kind of Friend we have? One who never leaves us, One who understands us, carries our sorrows and pain; paid our ransom, bore our infirmities, healed our diseases, comforts and strenghtens us. Helps us in our weaknesses.... What a FAITHFUL Friend we have?

Note the privilege that we have- WE CAN CARRY EVERYTHING (not somethings) TO GOD IN PRAYER.

Are you cumbered with a load of care? are you bearing needless pain? are you discouraged, despised, forsaken? Got trials and temptations? troubled anywhere?
NO WORRY-It is a privilege to bring EVERYTHING to Him in Prayer.

As you bring it all to Him in prayer, remember:-

* It's not by power nor by might but by the Spirit /Grace of God through Faith Zech 4:6. That Grace is God's unmerited favor to undeserving pple. It is His power to meet your needs.
Taking it all to Him in prayer is not on our own merits but just by His grace- what a priviledge.
If God was to bless only the perfect people, then He will Never bless anyone cause we all have sinned and have fallen short of His glory but Freely by His grace He has redeemed us.

* It's not how GREAT our faith is but the GREAT FAITHFULNESS of GOD.
As you take it to Him in Prayer, Trust in His:-
a. Power & Ability to Do WHAT needs to be done
b. Wisdom & Knowledge to Do it WHEN it needs to be done
c. Love & Goodness to Do it the WAY it needs to be done

We have a Friend in Jesus, to Him; we have the privilege of Bringing EVERYTHING in Prayer. Graciously He answers

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

4. Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised
Thou wilt all our burdens bear;
May we ever, Lord, be bringing
All to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright, unclouded,
There will be no need for prayer—
Rapture, praise, and endless worship
Will be our sweet portion there.

PRAISE IS MORE THAN PASTIME...

.... Dissapointing relationships, unfulfilled longings, shattered dreams, pain, turmoil....

In the face of heartache- immerse yourself in PRAISING GOD. It is a high privilege to Praise God. The more you glorify God, the more He will refresh you and deepen your experience of Him.

Our griefs cannot mar the melody of our praise; they are simply the bass notes of our life song, "To God be the glory"- C.H Spurgeon. God may use your tough situations to draw you nearer to Him and to enrich your praise.
Praise God in times of blessings and in your times of trials-Praise God from the heart.

Heb 13:15 By Him(Jesus) therefore let us offer the SACRIFICE of PRAISE to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name. Ephesians 5:18-20 Be filled with the spirit... singing and making melody in your heart to the LORD; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ. Psalm 34 -Bless the LORD at all times; His praise be continually in your (my) mouth...

Keep an attitude of Praise

"Come Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy Grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise."

Praise the LORD

Tale of Dead Sea- Author (Anonymous)

Sitting in the Geography class in school, I remember how fascinated I was when we were being taught all about the Dead Sea. As you probably recall, the Dead Sea is really a lake, not a sea (and as the Geography teacher pointed out, if you understood that, it would guarantee 4 marks in the term paper!)

It is so high in salt content that the human body can float easily. You can almost lie down and read a book! The salt in the Dead Sea is as high as 35% - almost 10 times the normal ocean water. And all that saltiness has meant that there is no life at all in the Dead Sea. No fish. No vegetation. No sea animals. Nothing lives in the Dead sea.

And hence the name: Dead Sea.

While the Dead Sea has remained etched in my memory, I don't seem to recall learning about the Sea of Galilee in my school Geography lesson. So when I heard about the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea and the tale of the two seas - I was intrigued. Turns out that the Sea of Galilee is just north of the Dead Sea. Both the Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea receive their water from river Jordan. And yet, they are very very different.

Unlike the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee is pretty, resplendent with rich, colorful marine life. There are lots of plants. And lots of fish too. In fact, the sea of Galilee is home to over twenty different types of fish.

Same region, same source of water, and yet while one sea is full of life, the other is dead. How come?

Here apparently is why. The River Jordan flows into the Sea of Galilee and then flows out. The water simply passes through the Sea of Galilee in and then out - and that keeps the Sea healthy and vibrant, teeming with marine life.

But the Dead Sea is so far below the mean sea level, that it has no outlet. The water flows in from the river Jordan, but does not flow out. There are no outlet streams. It is estimated that over a million tons of water evaporate from the Dead Sea every day. Leaving it salty. Too full of minerals. And unfit for any marine life.

The Dead Sea takes water from the River Jordan, and holds it. It does not give. Result?
No life at all. Think about it.

Life is not just about getting. It is about giving. We all need to be a bit like the Sea of Galilee.

We are fortunate to get wealth, knowledge, love and respect. But if we don't learn to give, we could all end up like the Dead Sea. The love and the respect, the wealth and the knowledge could all evaporate. Like the water in the Dead Sea.

If we get the Dead Sea mentality of merely taking in more water, more money, more everything the results can be disastrous. Good idea to make sure that in the sea of our own lives, we have outlets. Many outlets. For love and wealth - and everything else that we get in our lives. Let’s ensure we don't just get, we give too. Open the taps. And we are going to open the floodgates to happiness.

Make that a habit. To share. To give. And experience life. Experience the magic!

The LORD is my Helper

God has Stirred me up and Called me in Righteousness to His Service to carry out His Righteous Purpose.
Indeed He has taken me from the ends of the earth, from its furthest corners He called me-He said am His chosen servant.
I will not fear, for the LORD is with me. I will not be dismayed (distressed, troubled, saddened, disappointed) for He is my GOD. He will Strengthen and Help me; He will Uphold me with righteous right hand.
All who rage against me will surely be ashamed and disgraced.
Those who oppose me will be as nothing.
My enemies will be no more.
Those who wage war against me will be as nothing at all for the LORD My God who takes hold of my right hand will Help me. My Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel has declared that.
I will rejoice in the LORD & glory in the Holy One of Israel.
He will answer me.
He will make provisions for me.
He will beautify the desert places in my life
He will help me.
… So that people will See and Know, Consider and Understand that the LORD has done it. These beautiful fruitful conditions are part of God’s new creation/doing in my behalf.

The LORD is my HELPER

GOODNESS-THE NATURE OF GOD

Thou art good and doest good” (Psalm 119:68). God is so good; He is the ideal person, the sum total of all perfection. There are no defects or contradictions in Him, and nothing can be added to His nature to make Him any better. He is excellent to an infinite degree, possessing every desirable quality, and therefore of inestimable value.

God is good. He is also the source and fountain of all other good. He does good things. He extends His goodness to others. It is His nature to be kind, generous, and benevolent, to demonstrate good will toward men, and to take great pleasure in making them happy. Every good thing we now enjoy or ever hope to enjoy flows from Him, and no good thing has ever existed or ever will exist that does not come from His good hand. In addition, everything God does is good—specially tailored for our benefit. Asaph began Psalm 73 by stating quite literally, “Only God is good to Israel.” In other words, God is nothing but good. He can do nothing but what is absolutely best.

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is lovely (Psalm 135:3).
(Genesis 1:31). No one can observe the grandeur of God’s handiwork and deny that it is good
“The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD” (Psalm 33:5 KJV).

The LORD is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works (Psalm 145:9).

The person who knows Him personally, who understands and appreciates His goodness, will not only enjoy His blessings fully, but use them thankfully and unselfishly, giving glory to Him.
How great is Thy goodness, which Thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee, before the sons of men! (Psalm 31:19)
The Psalmist goes further: “No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly” (Psalm 84:11).

Objections?
Of course, not everybody agrees that God is good, and it should be no surprise that His goodness is being called into question today. It was probably the first attribute of God to be attacked in human history. When Satan met Eve in the garden, he implied that God was less than good for denying her the luscious fruit of that one forbidden tree (Genesis 3:1-5). Men have been challenging God’s goodness ever since. How can a good God allow evil to exist in His world? How can He permit disease, pain, suffering, poverty, hunger, prejudice, greed, exploitation, crime, violence, war, bloodshed, catastrophe, and destruction? They argue, either He is not very good or He does not have the power to stop it.

God tells us that His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9), therefore we cannot expect to understand everything. We know that God in His sovereign good pleasure created man with volition—the ability to choose good or evil. The first man chose evil of his own will, and his sin affected all of God’s creation. All of the heartache and suffering in this world today are the direct result of that choice, the consequence of living in a world affected by sin.

Response to God’s goodness
When we become aware of God’s goodness, it should elicit a certain kind of response from us.
God’s goodness prompts songs of praise and thanksgiving
Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His loving-kindness is everlasting (Psalm 106:1).

Kachel
